While Others Phone It In, You Can Stand Out
In my years as an RIA, I’ve seen a number of colleagues who show up with their full hearts and minds on the job. We are a remarkable community. We work constantly and tirelessly for our clients, and by and large we understand the enormous task that is stewarding wealth.
However, we all have gaps in our understanding. No one person is a true Renaissance man. There are things we excel at, and there are other things we would rather phone in. I’ve met many RIAs who can talk at length about the intricacies of the yield curve but when it comes to cooking, they order out every day. There are only so many hours in the day, and, unfortunately, we can’t master everything.
How Video Production Has Been a Difference Maker
Though the ability to be a good cook won’t do much for growing your practice, there are some skills that aren’t obviously related to being an RIA that can help. My background is in television, and I have a storied career in production. I know how to create sharp, effective videos. These obviously don’t help me build portfolios, but they have been a surprising core component to my success with clients.
Building Client Trust Through Excellence
All financial advisors must communicate. Being able to articulate and express market realities is part of the job, and it is a part that can be tempting to phone in. Some RIAs have newsletters, some are great on the phone, but very few deliver polished video content to their clients.
What I’ve learned in doing monthly market updates for my clients is that these videos show enough production excellence that they build client trust. If I have the energy and focus to create polished content that isn’t just shot on an iPhone with no sound equipment, it shows care and precision. Clients understand that if you show care and precision in that arena, you are likely to do the same with their portfolios.
If you feel like your firm could benefit, we’re sharing our services and helping the RIA community. See our updates or let’s talk.
